Mrs aristotle onassis biography book

He did not disappoint with Ari. I found this book to be fascinating, filled with history and details of what really happens in the world of shipping tycoons. Of course that was mentioned because it was a part of Ari's life. He was a genius and a true Greek. The story was of Ari and as expected there were pages devoted to his children, but Mr. Evans did not go into huge detail about Alexander or Christina.

He told just enough to keep the story alive. I know a book is great when I continue to think about it days after I finished it. Kent Johnson.

Author 4 books 6 followers. I can't say the biographer's writing was bad, the writing was quite good. It's the subject matter. I made it a little over half way, page out of and I just couldn't stand Onassis. The man seemed to wander through life screwing up women's lives by constantly wanting to have an affair with someone who in reality was perfectly happy.

The book brushed over the details of the shipping business and his ascension into the ranks of the truly wealthy and concentrated on his affairs, the way he threw money around to get what he wanted, the neglect of his own children, his drinking and petty rivalries. A despicable man who really doesn't deserve a book written about him.

I'm not big on biographies, but I enjoyed this one - great book! Theirpower struggle unfolds against a heady backdrop ofinternational intrigue: Bobby Kennedy's discovery of theGreek shipping magnate's shady dealings, which led him tobar Onassis from trade with the United States; Onassis'sattempt to control much of Saudi Arabia's oil; Onassis'suntimely love affair with Jackie's married sister LeeRadziwill; and his bold invitation to First Lady Jackie tojoin him on his yacht -- without the president.

Just as theself-made Greek tycoon gloried in the chance to stir thewrath of the Kennedys, they struggled unsuccessfully tobreak his spell over the woman who held the key to all oftheir futures. After Jack's death, Bobby became ever closerto Camelot's holy widow, and fought to keep her frommarrying his sworn rival. But Onassis rarely failed to getwhat he wanted, and Jackie became his wife shortly afterBobby was killed.

The project was heavily criticized by people such as Helen Vlachos , a journalist from Athens. Another Greek Colonel, Nikolaos Makarezos , preferred a deal offered by Onassis's rival, Stavros Niarchos , and the project was eventually split between them. The failure was due partly to opposition from influential people within the military junta, such as Ioannis-Orlandos Rodinos, Deputy Minister of Economic Coordination, who opposed Onassis's offers in preference to Niarchos.

To Onassis, his marriage to Athina was more than the fulfillment of his ambitions.

He also felt that the marriage dealt a blow to his father-in-law and the old-money Greek traditionalists who held Onassis in very low esteem. The house was, then, acquired by Onassis's brother-in-law and business rival Stavros Niarchos , who bought it for his wife, Eugenia Livanos , Athina's sister. They married on 20 October on Onassis's private Greek island, Skorpios.

Before the marriage, an agreement was reached between Onassis and Ted Kennedy , Jacqueline's former brother-in-law. The remainder of his estate was left to his daughter, Christina.

Christina's share has since passed to her only child, Athina , at the time making Athina one of the wealthiest women in the world.
