Another ethical question brought about by an installation like this is how much young children ought to be exposed to such issues. For my digital image, I took a photo of a stuffed pig that reminded me of those displayed on Banksy's "Farm Fresh Meats" truck. In Photoshop, I removed the toy from its background and then played with the " Vanishing Point " filter and the " Posterize " image effect to turn it into a Banksy-style graffiti piece. I added a red balloon as a reference to some of the artist's more iconic works, and because he is said to use this element to represent either " a loss of innocence or the arrival of new hope and love" MyArtBroker.

When artists address societal issues that are disturbing, and uncomfortable, I think that such works can be said to have either of these effects. Acknowledging these kinds of issues may strip us of our blissful naivety, but doing so may also empower us and inspire hope for change. That is what I tried to subtly reflect in this image while also making specific reference to the Sirens of the Lambs installation.

This was a great piece to chose because I think since it isn't in the "traditional Banksy style" of graffiti it is often forgotten about as a Banksy piece.

I was frustrated and dissatisfied by what I originally saw as a disconnect between art history and the very pressing problems facing the world.

I came very close to dropping out. I remember pretty much putting everything else on hold to read this book from cover to cover. Social Mirror was a project in which the artist added mirrors to the outside of a New York City Sanitation truck. This piece focused on something few people spend a lot of time thinking about — garbage. We throw something away and rarely think of it again, especially in the s before environmentalism became a household talking point.

The mirrors quite literally placed the viewers in to this picture. The description of this piece made me realize the potential art could have in terms of engaging head on with some of the most pressing problems of our day. Art did not have to be elitist and, in fact, could have an important role to play in things like social justice movements or environmentalism.

It is not an exaggeration to say that this experience shaped the trajectory of my career thus far.
